AM Conso Summary
Coach Jenny Richardson’s 15 -play roster — with 11 underclassmen — placed second in District 18-5A with a 10-2 mark, finished the season with a 33-14 mark and went two rounds deep in the Class 5A state playoffs before being eliminated by 19-5A champion College Station A&M Consolidated, 3-1, this past Friday at Giddings.
“I’m still in shock,” Richardson said. “I can’t believe it (the season) is over. I’m really superstitious and all the signs were there, which is a massive plus when you know your team is prepared.
“A&M Consolidated just had it right Friday night. They stepped up in places that we couldn’t. We had the effort, fight and will . . . we just didn’t have the execution.”
The Lady Tigers, 37-11 for the campaign, took the first two sets 25-18, 25-5 before Georgetown  rebounded to take the third set, 25-19. Consolidated closed the match by winning the fourth set, 25-16.
A&M Consolidated will move on to play Humble Kingwood Park (35-11) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cypress Woods High School.  Both teams ran the table in their respective district races  — Consolidated (14-0) and Kingwood Park (16-0).
“I’m so very proud of this team,” Richardson said. “They came into a program that is historically very successful. We didn’t hit the mark last year, and these girls were ready to return to the HOME GROWN culture that is Georgetown Volleyball.
“We had a great team meeting after the game. We cried, we laughed and we all knew that this group would be permanent fixtures in each other’s lives. No win or loss would change that.”
With senior Sutton Springer leading the way with 17 kills, Consolidated outhit GHS, .217 to .053 and also had a higher kill efficiency — 34.8 (48 of 138) to 20.7 (31 of 150).
Juniors Ivey Weber and Brianna Stovall led GHS with 10 and six kills, respectively, while junior Carley Hawkins added five. Other statistical leaders were Stovall with three of the the Lady Eagles’ five aces. Junor Emery Herman made 23 assists and junior Taelyn Jones had 19 digs and Weber added 17.
Richardson will lose four seniors — Kristin Jones, MaKenzie Skelton, Maddie Schock and Hanna Rowe.
Juniors scheduled to return next season are Makenzey Blades,   Deanna De La Torre, Carley Hawkins, Taelyn Jones, Emery Herman, McKenna Mokry, Brianna Stovall, Ivey Weber, Dylan Wienhold and Bailee Williams. Also returning will be freshman Annika Flora.
With Georgetown’s elimination from the playoffs, the only 18-5A team still alive in the postseason is champion Hutto (38-9), which will play Leander Rouse (28-15) in the regional quarterfinals at 6;30 p.m. Tuesday at Round Rock Cedar Ridge.
