By GALEN WELLNICKI
The Georgetown Lady Eagles, already assured of a berth in the UIL Class 5A State Volleyball Playoffs, will step out of District 18-5A competition  at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when they face Austin St. Stephen’s of the Southwest Preparatory Conference at Eagle Gym.
Coach Jenny Richardson’s Lady Eagles currently stand in second place in 18-5A with an 8-2 mark in 18-5A with two games remaining on their schedule with two games remaining on their district schedule.  GHS will entertain Bastrop Cedar Creek at 6:30 p.m. Friday and then close out the 18-5A campaign at East View at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday.
Georgetown also has scheduled a warm-up game for the playoffs at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, against Class 4A Liberty Hill on the Panthers’ court.
In the top conference pairing Tuesday night third-place East View (7-2) will entertain front-running Hutto (10-0). If the state-ranked Lady Hippos win, they will clinch the outright district title and top seeding in the bi-district round of the state playoffs. An upset victory by East View would pull the Patriots into second-place tie with Georgetown.
Georgetown’s victory at Manor was its seventh 3-0 sweep in 10 district outings and they now have outscored 18-5A opponents 27-8 in sets won. The Lady Eagles have only allowed the district opposition to win sets in two losses to Hutto and an early season 3-2 win over Bastrop.
“We played really well,” said Richardson of the 25-10, 25-6, 25-10 win over the Lady Mustangs. “We worked on some new plays that we hope to see score points during our playoff run.”
The Lady Eagles had a strong match on the attacking end, hitting .325 with a 45.5 kill efficiency (35 of 77).  With Richardson finding playing time for everyone, GHS’ statistics were spread over the entire available roster. Juniors Brianna Stovall and McKenna Mokry topped the kills’ chart with nine and seven, working off assists by junior Emery Herman (13) and senior Hanna Rowe (10). Georgetown had 11 aces with senior Kristin Jones, junior Ivey Weber, senior MacKenzie Skelton, freshman Annika Flora and Stovall posting two each and Herman added one.

The Lady Eagles will celebrate senior night on Tuesday, honoring K. Jones, Skelton, Maddie Shock and Rowe.
